Back in the summer of 2001, I spent three days in the california desert with an amazing group of bodybuilders, shooting perhaps my most complicated photo production to date. But, you will never see it in a magazine.
I was under contract to Weider at the time, and had already produced some memorable “concept” shoots. This shoot was the most challenging yet. A Large cast, remote 1600 acre location, complicated narrative, detailed styling and tons of special effects make up. Timea Majorova, Lena Johannesen, Jennifer Goodwin, Sherry Goggins, Mandy Blank and even “Little Hercules” Richard Sandrak, . “Survival of the Fittest”, took place after an “eco-polypse”, only women with muscle [maintaining the bodies maximum anabolic state] seemed to survive unscathed. Muscle men also survived, but turned into blood thirsty freaks. The photos followed the journey of one small tribe of women, as they searched for a prophesied, Boy named Adam. This little muscle boy’s mutation possibly held the key to their future.
To this day, I have no idea why it was never published by Muscle & Fitness. Eight years is long enough to wait, I have decided to publish it here on Shemuscle. So from time to time I will scan select photos of this tribe of women, who hope to save the human race.
